Dr Duic

J. Paul Duic, M.D., is a Neuro-Oncologist who specializes in the medical management of brain tumors and spine tumors, including central nervous system (CNS) tumors, gliomas, metastatic tumors, and CNS lymphoma.

Dr. Duic received his undergraduate degree, Bachelor of Science, in Biological Sciences, from Columbia University, New York, NY magna cum laude. He obtained his medical degree at NYU School of Medicine, New York, NY. Dr. Duic completed a Residency in Emergency Medicine at Johns Hopkins University. He also completed a Surgical Internship and three years of Neurological Surgery Residency at UC Davis Medical Center, Sacramento, CA. He subsequently completed a Fellowship in Neuro-Oncology at the Neuro-Oncology Branch on the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health (NIH.) He returned to the Neuro-Oncology Branch of NIH before joining Neurological Surgery, P.C.

Dr. Duic has also served as a Lieutenant Commander in the Medical Corps of the United States Naval Reserve.

At NIH Dr. Duic investigated cyclin-dependent kinase inhibition and TRAIL-mediated apoptosis in gliomas. He coauthored several peer reviewed papers including: “Phase I Trial of Lenalidomide in Patients With Recurrent Primary Central Nervous System Tumors” that was published in Clinical Cancer Research in 2007 and “A Phase II Trial of Single Agent Bevacizumab Followed by Bevacizumab Plus Irinotecan at Tumor Progression in Patients with Recurrent Glioblastoma” that will soon appear in the Journal of Clinical Oncology.

He is an experienced co-investigator on multiple clinical trials at NIH involving many novel molecularly targeted agents. He delivers neurosurgical and medicine grand rounds and attends multiple tumor boards. He speaks on many occasions regarding these clinical trials and offers information on new treatments for brain tumors.

Dr. Duic is on the Board of Advisors of ACS, Protocol Review Committee & Cancer Care Committee of SNCH, Bioethics Committee at Winthrop, Investigator for Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) & Biomedical Research Alliance of NY (BRANY).

Jai Grewal, M.D., is a Neuro-Oncologist who specializes in the management of primary brain and spine tumors, Central Nervous System metastases, and neurological complications of cancer.

He received his undergraduate degree from Boston University, and his medical degree from Spartan Health Sciences University.

Dr. Grewal completed his internal medicine internship at Griffin Hospital in Derby, Connecticut, which is affiliated with Yale University. He then performed a residency in neurology at the University of Texas, Southwestern. Subsequently Dr. Grewal completed a neuro-oncology fellowship at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

His research has involved a study of the correlation of estrogen, progesterone and Her2/neu receptor status with survival in breast cancer patients with leptomeningeal metastasis. Dr. Grewal participated in designing and writing several clinical protocols addressing radiation necrosis and venous thromboembolism in patients with primary brain tumors.

As a Research Assistant at Children’s Hospital, Dept. of Neuroscience, Harvard Medical School, Dr. Grewal elucidated in vitro mechanisms of embryonic radial glial cell and astrocyte differentiation in mice. He also studied in vivo apoptotic mechanisms of neuronal degeneration.

Dr. Grewal is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He was the recipient of the Teva Neuroscience Award for his achievement in neuroanatomy. He currently is with Neurological Surgery, P.C.

Dr. Grewal is fluent in Spanish.

Dr. Michael H. Brisman

Michael H. Brisman, M.D., F.A.C.S., is a Board Certified Neurosurgeon who is proficient in adult neurological surgery. He specializes in stereotactic and radiosurgery techniques for the treatment of brain tumors and trigeminal neuralgia.

Michael H. Brisman, M.D., is Chief of the Division of Neurosurgery and Co-Director of the Neurosciences Institute at Winthrop-University Hospital, Mineola, New York. Dr Brisman is also Co-Director of the Long Island Gamma Knife Center at South Nassau Communities Hospital.

 

Dr. Jeffrey A. Brown

Jeffrey A. Brown, M.D., F.A.C.S. is a Board Certified Neurosurgeon,
listed as one of America’s Top Doctors in the 2003 and 2004 editions of the Castle Connolly Directory representing the top 1% of all physicians in the United States.
He is cited for his expertise in “Pain Neurosurgical Treatment, Trigeminal
Neuralgia, Pain-Chronic.”

Dr. Lee Eric Tessler

Lee Eric Tessler, M.D. is a Neurosurgeon who specializes in the treatment of primary brain tumors, metastatic tumors, meningiomas, stereotactic surgery, and radiosurgery.

Dr Tessler is currently the Chief of Neurotrauma and the Chairman of the Neurosurgery Quality Improvement Committee at Winthrop University Hospital. Most recently, Dr. Tessler was elected to serve as a member of the Mercy Medical Center Executive Committee through 2010.
 

Dr. Ramin Rak

Ramin Rak, M.D. is a Neurosurgeon who is proficient in adult neurosurgery. He specializes in brain tumors, cerebrovascular and skull base diseases, stereotactic radiosurgery, as well as complex and minimally invasive spinal procedures. Dr. Rak is an expert in micro-neurosurgical techniques which he utilizes to perform most of his brain and spinal surgeries. Dr Rak is certified in both Cyber-knife and Gamma-knife procedures.

Dr. Elizabeth M. Trinidad

Elizabeth M. Trinidad, M.D. is a fellowship trained pediatric neurosurgeon who specializes in the treatment of children and adults afflicted with complex disorders of the brain and spine.  Dr. Trinidad is expert in neuroendoscopy and uses minimally invasive techniques when treating diseases of the brain and spine such as tumors, congenital malformations (craniosynostosis, spina bifida and Chiari), hydrocephalus, epilepsy and spasticity, trauma and degenerative disease.  She is an expert in managing their care by using stereotactic radiosurgery for tumors and AVM’s (Arteriovenous Malformations).

Dr. Scott Uretsky

Neuro-
Ophthalmologist

Scott Uretsky, M.D.,is a fellowship trained neuro-ophthalmologist with board certification in neurology (a diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology).  Dr. Uretsky specializes in treatment of optic nerve disorders, visual disturbances and eye movement disorders of nervous system.  These include neurological, ophthalmic and systemic diseases that impact  the visual system.

 

Alan B. Ettinger, M.D.

Epilepsy

Alan B. Ettinger, M.D. is a nationally-known epilepsy specialist who has dedicated his life to helping individuals with seizures and related disorders. Dr. Ettinger is the new Director of Epilepsy at Neurological Surgery, P.C. Dr. Ettinger is a graduate of the Boston University 6 Year Combined BA-MD program. He completed his neurology and EEG/Epilepsy fellowship training at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

 

Dr. Gad E. Klein

Neuropsychologist

Gad E. Klein, Ph.D., is a neuropsychologist who specializes in the cognitive aspects of various neurological disorders including epilepsy, movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, as well as brain tumors and dementia. Dr. Klein is also an expert in advanced neuro-imaging techniques such as functional MRI, as well as the intracarotid amobarbital test (Wada test) and electrocortical stimulation mapping.

NURSE PRACTITIONERS

Chaomei Wu  (Mei Wu)

Ms. Wu is a certified Nurse Practitioner in Family Health.  She is licensed as a Registered Nurse, Clinical Laboratory Technologist as well as a Nurse Practitioner in Family Health in the state of New York.  She is BLS, ACLS, and PALS certified. 

Ms. Wu obtained her undergraduate degree in Biology from the State University of New York, Albany; her nursing degree from Albany Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, and her Masters degree as a Nurse Practitioner in Family Health from The Sages Colleges, Sage Graduate School.

After working many years as an Emergency Room & trauma nurse, she has a special compassion and is very sympathetic to the needs of the underserved. She is an active member of  the Nurse Practitioner Association in New York State.


Michelle Almaliah

Michelle Almaliah is a certified Adult Nurse Practitioner. She received her Bachelors in Nursing from Binghamton University and her Masters degree in Nursing from Hunter-Bellevue School Nursing.

As a registered nurse,  Mrs. Almaliah worked in the neuro-surgical ICU at New York University Hospital for seven years. Upon completion of her Masters degree she worked as Nurse practitioner for an Orthopaedic Spine Surgeon at Lenox Hill Hospital and as Neurosurgical Nurse Practitioner at New York University Hospital.

Mrs Almaliah has over twelve years experience in caring for brain and spine patients. Her strong knowledge base of neurosurgery enables her to deliver compassionate care.
